Finally we have come to the end of this amazing project! It has been a long time in the making (nearly 3 years!) and we are both sad and relieved that it's all coming to an end.
To mark the completion of this project, The Children's Medical and Research Foundation held an opening reception dedicated to us and our paintings. This was a lovely lunchtime event with speeches, food(tea, cakes and sandwiches.. yum!), a slideshow of all of our work and some lovely guests of course! We were also each presented with a token of thanks in the form of a CMRF coin.
Here is a photo of the four artists- (L to R) Emily Clarke, Katrina Moore, Danielle Whelan and Louise McGrath.
Besides the four artists, Danielles sister Aisling Whelan donated a lovely
painting. She was a former patient of Crumlin Children's hospital and was delighted to be given a chance to give something back to them.
Here she is with us:
And here is her painting:
I think Emily has already thanked a few people in a previous post but I would like to again thank in particular Dympna Cawley, assistant Director of Nursing(Haematology/Oncology), for being absolutely brilliant in guiding us in the right direction as we completed this project. It has been wonderful to work with her and I hope our paths will cross again in the future!
I also want to thank Edel O'Malley, Director of Development at the CMRF, for organising the opening reception at the CMRF building. Edel also organised the collection of all the paintings and has been lovely to work with!
Our paintings won't be put up in the ward until phase 2 of the refurbishment of the ward is complete. The approximate completion time is September so our paintings should be up there by October. Before any of that happens they need to be framed and plaques need to be made for each painting. They will be framed with perspex not glass as glass is not allowed in children's hospitals!!
We will update with photos of the ward when the paintings are up and hopefully some kind of documentation of the children's/parents reaction to our paintings!
That's all for now!
Louise
